Richard Brooks

Richard is the founder of Tyne Solutions Pty Ltd, provider of management and consulting services to the Cabinet Makers and Designers Association (CMDA) and the Architectural Door Hardware Association.

The services provided to these associations cover the wide range of industry issues including technical, training, industrial relations and general industry/business support. CMDA nominated Richard as its representative to the Furniture Cabinet and Joinery Alliance Ltd and he has been actively involved in the representation of the broader industry including in his role as Deputy Chair of the organisation.

Richard is also the deputy chair of Standards Australia Ltd (will be formally appointed as chair at the Standards Australia Annual General Meeting on the 28th November 2014). He is the Standards Australia nominee to the Accreditation Board for Standards Development Organisations (ABSDO) and also chairs the SA FP20 technical committee “Building in bushfire areas”. He has a strong belief in the importance of standards and their accessibility to those that use them – in particular the small business community.

Richard’s involvement with Standards Australia followed a period of industry concern with changes that were proposed in 2008-9 and representations that he made on behalf of his association clients and in his (then) role as Chair of the Council of Small Business Organisations of Australia (COSBOA).

During the period 1991 – 2005 he was Executive Director of the Timber Merchants Association (Victoria) and executive officer of several allied industry associations and business entities that TMA was involved with. During this period he held a number of other positions including Director/Co-Chair of the Timber Industry Superannuation Scheme, Director/Deputy Chair of the Forest and Forest Products Employment Skills Company Ltd (now ForestWorks) and a number of other government, training, industrial and technical committees.

Prior to 1991 he gained 25 years experience as the managing director of a timber and building supplies business and an associated building company involved in residential construction
